Torque Release And Substance Abuse: How Can Trt Help You Stay Clean?
PSA: I would like to note that what is listed is not a cure to addiction. This is not a claim to a cure. There is not presently published research on a cure to addiction. TRT & Chiropractic can partner with a current rehab or substance abuse program in someones life to help encourage them to continue on in their rehab process.
You’ve seen the headlines in the newspaper or late night news report. Maybe you’ve been on the receiving end of that terrifying phone call of a friend letting you know someone that you deeply love has relapsed or accidentally overdosed due to their drug habit. Throughout history, marriages have suffered and families torn apart because of the rise of the black market and drug abuse.
Cocaine, narcotics, marijuana, heroine are just a few of the substances that have taken the lives of those we love so dearly. Many of us ask the question(s), “what can I do? What is the answer? Will anything help them stay clean?” Well, while I can’t guarantee that there is a picture perfect way to help those in the middle of addiction, I can bring some light to a different side of Principled Chiropractic you may have never heard before.
Torque Release Technique.
If you have visited the office here, in Rochester, NY, you have likely seen the instrument Dr. Sam uses to assist in adjustments:
Now, the history of the TRT is something to be noted.
“The Integrator™ is the only chiropractic adjusting instrument that was developed out of randomized clinical trial, blinded and with placebo control. The study was designed by Robert Duncan, Ph. D., biostatistician, at the University of Miami School of Medicine, together with the Holder Research Institute and founded in part by a grant from the Florida Chiropractic Society. Years of development, testing and design went into creating an instrument that would deliver that 3rd dimensional dynamic that adjusting by hand embraced but that no other instrument in chiropractic delivered; “TORQUE” and “RECOIL”. THE INTEGRATOR reproduces the entire thrust and movement components of TOGGLE RECOIL, the classic Chiropractic Method of adjusting by hand at a speed of 1/10,000th of a second. No instrument in chiropractic history has been able to reproduce what the hands were intended to do!”**
Now, How can TRT assist with those struggling with their addiction program?
“What’s the connection between a misaligned spine and addictions? It has to do with the interruption of a precise sequence of chemical changes in your brain called the “brain reward cascade.” If this cascade is not interrupted, you feel a sense of well-being and pleasure. If the sequence is interrupted, resulting in what is known as “reward deficiency syndrome,” you may seek mood-altering substances or activities. The brain chemicals known as neurotransmitters must be released in the right sequence, like falling dominoes, for you to feel good. The biochemical end of the line is the release of dopamine; dopamine reward may be the biochemical secret to understanding addictions.
How does a misalignment in your back interfere with the flow of chemicals in the brain?
Holder’s theory is that emotions and feelings are felt not just in your head, but in your spine as well. If your spine is misaligned anywhere along its length, that condition can interfere with the proper operation of the limbic system and the flow of reward chemicals in your brain Chiropractic gets the dopamine flowing again, balancing the brain reward cascade. Chiropractic offers the public something that conventional medicine cannot: a drug-free addiction treatment program.”**
Again, “Chiropractic does not treat addiction — it does not treat any disease,” Holder told
Miami Herald reporter Christine Morris. “We’re allowing those things that treat
addiction to be embraced more thoroughly.”
We want to encourage our community to embrace a healthy lifestyle. Speak up when you know someone is struggling. If you know someone who is ready to get clean and is sick of starting programs and never completing them, tell them about us. Tell them about Chiropractic. As their friend, stand by their side and encourage them to take positive, drug-free steps towards a clean life.
