How Overconsumption of Sugar is Fueling Systemic Inflammation and Chronic Pain
We often hear that “sugar is bad for you,” but what does that really mean? Beyond weight gain or energy crashes, excess sugar consumption can be a major contributor to chronic inflammation in the body. And inflammation is at the root of many unresolved pain conditions, recurring injuries, and long-term health challenges.
At Camarata Chiropractic & Wellness, we work with patients every day who are doing everything right—chiropractic care, PT, exercise, stretching—but still dealing with nagging pain. In many of these cases, inflammation from poor nutrition, especially sugar, is playing a major role in slowing down their healing.
What Is Inflammation?
Inflammation is the body's natural response to injury or illness. In the short term, it's a protective process—your immune system sends white blood cells to repair damage, fight off infections, and start the healing process.
However, when inflammation becomes chronic and systemic, it stops being helpful and starts being harmful. Chronic inflammation can silently damage tissues, joints, blood vessels, and organs—without obvious symptoms at first.
Over time, it leads to:
-
Chronic pain
-
Fatigue
-
Slow injury recovery
-
Hormonal imbalances
-
Digestive issues
