SoftWave for Plantar Fasciitis and Heel Pain: Getting Back on Your Feet

Published August 3rd, 2026 by Camarata Chiropractic

You know the feeling if you have lived it.

That first step out of bed in the morning, and a sharp stab shoots through your heel.

You limp to the bathroom, it loosens up a bit, and you tell yourself it is fine.

Then you stand up after sitting at your desk and it hits again.

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most stubborn, frustrating problems we see, and one of the most rewarding to treat.

What Is Actually Going On in Your Foot

The plantar fascia is a thick band of connective tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot, from the heel bone out to the base of the toes.

It acts like a bowstring, supporting your arch and absorbing load every time you take a step.

When that tissue is repeatedly overloaded, it develops small areas of irritation and degeneration, usually right where it attaches at the heel.

Here is the part that surprises people.

Despite the name ending in "itis," long-standing plantar fasciitis is often not primarily an inflammation problem.

It is more accurately a degeneration problem. The tissue has gotten stuck in a poor state of repair and stopped healing properly.

That distinction matters, because it explains why anti-inflammatory approaches alone so often fall short.

Why It Hurts Most in the Morning

Overnight, your foot rests in a pointed position and the fascia shortens slightly.

The first steps of the morning stretch that tissue abruptly, which is exactly what produces that classic stabbing heel pain.

The same thing happens after any long period of sitting.

If that pattern sounds like your life right now, you are in very familiar territory.

Who Tends to Get It

Plantar fasciitis does not discriminate much.

  • People who stand on hard floors all day, including nurses, teachers, retail workers, and factory staff

  • Runners and walkers who increased mileage quickly

  • Anyone who spent the summer barefoot or in unsupportive sandals

  • People carrying extra weight, which increases load through the arch

  • Those with very high arches or very flat feet

  • Anyone with tight calves and Achilles tendons

We see a real uptick around this time of year in Rochester, when people have spent a whole summer in flip flops and then head back to long days on their feet.

What Most People Try First

By the time patients reach our office, they have usually run the whole list.

Stretching. Rolling a frozen water bottle. New shoes. Over-the-counter inserts. Night splints. Anti-inflammatories. Rest.

Some of that helps, at least temporarily.

The trouble is that none of it directly addresses the stalled healing in the tissue itself.

You can stretch a tissue that is not repairing all you want. It still is not repairing.

That is where SoftWave changes the conversation.

How SoftWave Approaches Plantar Fasciitis

SoftWave Tissue Regeneration Technology uses unfocused acoustic waves, delivered through a handheld applicator directly to the affected area.

Those waves are a mechanical signal, not heat and not electricity.

When they travel into the tissue, they set off a helpful cascade:

  • Blood flow to the treated area increases, bringing oxygen and nutrients

  • The body forms new small blood vessels to support the tissue

  • Inflammatory activity is nudged toward a healthier, more resolved state

  • The body is prompted to recruit its own repair cells to the site

In other words, we are not doing the healing for your foot.

We are giving a stalled repair process the signal it needs to restart.

Why Unfocused Waves Matter for the Foot

The heel is not a single tiny point of trouble.

The fascia attachment, the surrounding tissue, the fat pad, and the calf all tend to be involved together.

Focused shockwave concentrates energy at one narrow, deep point, and it can be intensely uncomfortable.

SoftWave spreads the signal broadly across the whole region.

That means better coverage of everything that is contributing to your pain, and a far more comfortable session.

What a Session Is Like

People often brace themselves for something dramatic. It is not.

Gel is applied to the foot, and the applicator is moved across the heel and arch.

Most patients describe a firm tapping sensation. Tender spots may feel more noticeable, which is actually useful diagnostic information for us.

Sessions are short. There is no numbing, no needles, and no downtime.

You walk out and go about your day.

Because we are working with your own biology, results build across a series of visits rather than all at once. Consistency is what allows the tissue to do its work.

We Also Look Above the Foot

This is where chiropractic care and SoftWave work together.

Your foot does not function in isolation.

Ankle mobility, calf tightness, hip mechanics, and even how your pelvis sits all influence how much load lands on that plantar fascia with every step.

If your ankle does not move well, your arch takes the extra work.

Treating the heel while ignoring the chain above it is how people end up back in the same spot six months later.

So we assess the whole picture, restore motion where it is restricted, and treat the tissue directly.

What You Can Do Between Visits

Home care still matters, and it works much better alongside treatment.

  • Stretch your calves daily, since tight calves pull directly on the fascia

  • Wear supportive shoes, including around the house, and retire the worn-out pairs

  • Avoid going barefoot on hard floors while things are settling down

  • Reduce, but do not fully eliminate, the activity that aggravates it

  • Be patient, because tissue repair runs on a biological timeline, not a wishful one

Is It Right for You?

We will be straight with you.

SoftWave is not a magic wand, and results vary from person to person.

What we can tell you is that for stubborn heel pain that has not responded to the usual approaches, it offers something genuinely different: a drug-free, non-surgical way to support your body's own regenerative response.

If you have been limping through mornings for months, telling yourself it will eventually go away on its own, it may be time for a different plan.

We would be glad to evaluate your foot, explain what we find, and tell you honestly whether we think we can help.
